Waiting on Granite Strength

God the One and Only

"I'll wait as long as He says. Everything I need comes from Him. So why not?" says David in Psalm 62 (The Message Bible).

This verse is again repeated to add emphasis to the never-changing nature of God, on whom we can rely, put our trust, and wait. Why should we trust God like that?

David says He is his Rock. David was a man who had braved bears, lions, Saul, the Philistines, and Goliath with God's help. Where was he running when he was under search and attack by Saul? He hid himself in hills, rocks, and mountains: the Cave of Adullam, the Forest of Hereth, the Wilderness of Ziph, Maon, En Gedi, and the Hill of Hachilah. Scholars say that David was running like this for almost 7 to 10 years. So, he uses this imagery. The Message Bible describes God as David's "granite strength."

It is in verses 7 and 8:

"My help and glory are in God—granite strength and safe harbor God."

What is granite?

Granite is one of the hardest and strongest rocks in God's creation. It does not crack or wear away easily. It can withstand heat, rain, wind, and storms for millions of years. Because of its strength, it is used to build strong buildings, bridges, monuments, and foundations that last for generations. Granite can carry great weight without breaking, making it a symbol of strength, stability, and endurance.

These are the qualities of a rock that was in God's creation. When David calls God his Rock, how much more could He be for him? How much stability we have in God. How strong a foundation there is for us in the Lord. Isn't it amazing that we have Someone awesome in whom we can wait? Yes, why not? We will wait.

David thus says God is his hope in his waiting. He knows salvation is very sure in the Lord. He knows God will protect him and his generations. Even under severe pressure, it is He who will hold him. He can brave any season when God is his help.

David is so firm in his faith that he asks again, "So why not?" Waiting was not a burden to him when he knew on whom he was waiting. He knew that God would never, ever fail him when he put his expectation on Him and waited for Him to redeem, waited for Him to save.

Hey, friend, is God the center of your waiting? As long as He is your anchor, He is your granite, He is your Rock, salvation is very near. The prolonged seasons of waiting cannot wear us down as long as we wait on Him—God, the One and Only.

Prayer

Dear God, thank You for Your love. You have helped us overcome the challenges in the past. You will help us face what is ahead. You are our Rock, our firm foundation, and our trust for generations. We will wait for You, Lord, with firm trust. We confess that our expectations come from You. You are our Rock. In Jesus' name, we thank You. Amen.
