Emunah

Emunah is a beautiful word in Hebrew. It expresses faith that remains firm even when you cannot see the whole picture. How many of us have obeyed God even when it didn't make any sense to us? This word Emunah can be ascribed to this faith. That is how you start living by faith. You won't have a picture of what lies ahead, but you choose to obey God.

When we accept Jesus Christ, we simply believe that we are righteous in Him because we are washed by the blood of Jesus Christ. Though reasoning is a powerful tool in the mind to analyse everything you learn, sometimes it is not a great tool when it comes to submit our minds in obedience to God. God has done mighty things in the lives of His people who obeyed Him when they had no clue why He was asking them to do so. Abraham moved from his native land like that. Moses did so when God used him to perform so many miracles.

We all start our faith journey like this. The Galatians in the Bible did that. But soon, they believed lies that were not from the Gospel and thought they should obey those lies, too. They believed that they should circumcise themselves to become Christians. Paul saw them changing drastically from trusting and believing God and moving in faith to falling into the demand for complete understanding.

In Galatians 3:1, Paul asks them:

“O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you…?”Paul used the strong word “bewitched” because the Galatians had been heavily influenced in their minds and had turned their faith into something completely different from what it was meant to be..

In Galatians 3:3, he also says:

“Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?”

Hey, friend, may we beware of this in our faith life. Whatever we started in faith in our lives, may we never look back and doubt it. When we allow the demand for complete understanding to control our obedience unto God, then we can never move forward. And know that we have no choice to move backward, either.

Dear God, we commit ourselves to obey Your call even when we do not understand it completely. We confess that our God knows everything through His foreknowledge and does everything in a way that does good to us. May we continue to walk in faith, trusting in all Your ways, Lord. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
