The Arithmetic of Heaven
God can work through the little we have. What a comfort to know this! This can be illustrated in Mark 6. Here, many people saw Jesus and His disciples and gathered where they were, and Jesus was moved with compassion and healed them. When it was late, there came a time when they felt the need to provide food for the people out there.
In verse 36, the disciples said, “Send the people away and let them go to the nearby farms and villages in order to buy themselves something to eat.” This shows that the disciples couldn't even picture that Jesus could feed them Himself. But Jesus had other plans. He wanted to feed the five thousand by blessing what they had through the hands of the disciples, who couldn't even picture the same. To test them, Jesus asked the disciples what they had. Their minds immediately went to check the money they had: the two hundred silver coins. When we check the value of 200 silver coins, it equals the wages of a person for a year. The disciples were practical in checking their wallets when they needed to feed many. But in Kingdom work, it is not money that helps feed the hungry, but faith in Jesus and His might. When Jesus was moved with compassion and healed them, wouldn't He be able to feed them too?
Hey friend, where do we look? What do we check when we need something? Our wallets? Can we check with Jesus? Can we take our needs to Him in faith and surrender so that He will meet them, not through the money we have, but through the little faith we have, the mustard-sized faith!
Hey friend, God's plans are bigger. He pictures what we can't picture and uses us to accomplish His plans through us. Next time, when we have a need, may we go directly to Him, who can multiply the little we have. Be it five loaves and two fish, as little as they are, they are enough to feed the masses.
Dear God, we submit the little we have into Your hands. Help us and bless us to feed the thousands who are hungry. May we learn to picture what You could do through faith. May our natural response to a need be to reach out to You in faith and not to the finances we have in our hands. May we learn to receive Your provision in faith. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
