Pearls from the Bible 37

One of my favorite carols for Christmas is 'Joy to the world, the Lord has come.' Indeed, it is joyful news but not for everyone. How could that be? How can anyone be sad when the king has come to redeem them from the enemy? It was particularly sad for a person who wants to be the king and not just anyone. It was King Herod. Matthew chapter 2 verse 3 says, when King Herod heard about this (about the birth of Christ), he was very upset. Are we happy about Jesus being the king over our lives, or do we want to reign over ourselves or our family? Are we able to submit ourselves and call Him the king of our lives? Living under His rule might mean that we have to put our own desires on the cross and follow Him with sacrifice. The path of following this king will cost anything that comes from our own selves, like self-desires, selfish ambitions, and self-righteousness. May, in this Christmas season and forever, the Lord reign over us.

Dear God, be our king, be our head. May we always submit to your kingship. May we love you dearly. Thanks for being our compassionate king. Help us to serve you with all we have got. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
