"No makeup, but simply a straight preaching came from John the Baptist. He called the people 'You snakes and children of snakes! How do you expect to escape from being condemned to hell?' in Matthew 23:33. You might think, 'Oh, that's harsh.' A person who sins has to confess and repent to guard themselves in Christ. All of us are tempted every day in this life, but as sons and daughters of God, we are not to play with it but to strike it down.Imagine yourself enjoying a relaxing time in the park when a snake rises its head toward you. You will not be speaking to it, asking not to hurt you, or even more foolishly, thinking you can just play with it. We are supposed to flee or strike its head as quickly as possible. The same goes for sinning. When temptation comes, it is meaningless to replay those thoughts and believe that you can overpower them. Cut it straight, move away, and guard yourself from sinning. If you have sinned and are remorseful, repent and get back to God, who has great hopes for you and calls you the salt of the world and the light on the mountain.May we choose to be children of light and not children of snakes.
And where can you equip yourself with the power to strike sin when it rises its head? The only answer is READING THE WORD OF GOD.Normally speaking, if we skip breakfast, we feel tired; if we skip lunch, we feel even more tired; if we skip dinner, then that is it. Our body will be too weak. In the same way, make sure not to miss your manna (God's word). Be a mighty warrior in God's kingdom. Do not hesitate but kill sin today.
Dear God, thank you for the power that comes through your word. We confess our sins to you. Forgive us and strengthen us every day with your word. May we live a power-packed life, make us the salt and light that you intend us to be. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."
