The God Behind Our Faith

It was a God moment for me when I read Hebrews 11. It strengthened me to overcome my tiredness. The first verse goes like this:

"Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see."

What a verse. It holds a timeless message about God, who strengthened people's faith. Yes, it's not about the people; it's about Him who strengthens our faith.

What has God done for the people as in Hebrews 11? He helped Abel bring an acceptable offering. He helped Noah build an impossible boat to save his family. He helped Abraham believe that he would have an inheritance. He helped Sarah believe and have the child of promise. He helped Abraham receive his son back from death. He helped Joseph believe that his bones would go to the Promised Land. He strengthened Moses' parents to disobey the king's order to protect baby Moses. He helped Moses flee from the pleasure of sin and the privilege of being called the son of Pharaoh's daughter. He helped Moses not fear the king. He helped Moses keep his eyes on Him who is invisible. He helped the Israelites sprinkle the blood of the lamb on their doorposts to protect their children. He helped the Israelites cross the Red Sea. He saved Rahab from destruction. He made Jericho fall before the people of Israel. He helped people overthrow kingdoms. He helped people receive the promises that He gave them. He helped Daniel by shutting the lions' mouths. He quenched the fire to protect Daniel's friends.

Yes, it is He. Our God did this. He also helped some go through torture( persecution). He strengthened His people to stand bravely in the face of death. He placed the hope of resurrection in their hearts. Persecution, death, mistreatment, and cruelty could not stand before the God who strengthened His people to face them.

Why is it God who did it? The Bible says He is the Author of our faith. He is behind our trust, our faith in Him, and in His promises. Whatever He has promised is secure in Him.

Be it good or bad, high or low, plenty or nothing, in every season He is with us, helping us hold on to Him.

Dear God, how blessed we are to have You in every step of our faith. Through You, we declare that we will offer the offering that pleases You. We will do the impossible when You guide us with Your plans. We will have an inheritance. We will have the child of promise at the appointed time. We will see our sons and daughters protected by Your blood. We declare, like Joseph, that our generation will walk in God's promises. We will stand unshaken and protect our families like Moses' parents. We will flee from the pleasures of the world. We will not chase privileged titles. Our steps will be guided not by the world but by the invisible King. We will see the barriers and walls before us fall. We will cross the Red Sea before us. We will be saved from destruction like Rahab. We will overthrow kingdoms. We will walk quietly even when lions surround us. We will not be consumed in the fire. We will believe You when our faith is challenged. We will stand for You with the hope of resurrection. We will receive our loved ones whom we have given over to death (in heaven).

In faith we say, Lord, You did it for Abel, Abraham, Moses, Joseph, Daniel, Rahab, and Noah. You will do it for us. Do it again, Lord. Do it for us. Do it through us.
