We all have a tendency to feel sorry for many reasons. People feel sorry when their health fails or when they lose their wealth, and so on. But do you know when the Lord feels sorry? Genesis chapter 6, verse 5, says, "When the Lord saw how wicked everyone on earth was and how evil their thoughts were all the time, He was sorry that He had ever made them and put them on the earth." Micah 6:8 says, "He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, love mercy." The only thing the Lord requires from men is this, and it sounds so simple, yet so hard.
Jesus, while he was living on earth, showed how to live and please God. His way of thinking and living was the standard set by God, which we think is unattainable. But when we cooperate with the Holy Spirit, He will lead us; it is us who are expected to make decisions with our free will. The following verse shows the power we have to make decisions and how to analyze before making the right choice: "You say, ‘I am allowed to do anything’—but not everything is good for you. You say, ‘I am allowed to do anything’—but not everything is beneficial" (1 Corinthians 10:23). We can keep the above verse as a base upon which we can try to build the decision.
Here is a wise leader taking a decision and setting a model for a whole nation (Israelites): "But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:14-15). When we understand that we are responsible for our choices and the consequences that follow us on earth because of it, we will surely consider what is good for us and beneficial for everyone. As owners of our free will, we should be like Joshua in taking a firm decision.
Dear God, help us to be a source of joy to you. May we not bring sorrow to your heart. May you strengthen us to make right decisions consistently in every choice we make every day. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
